ABOUT THIS RELEASE

PURPOSE

This HotFix provides an updated installation
package for use with NetShield for NetWare
4.6.0. This new package resolves all of the
outstanding issues listed in "Resolved
Issues".

   NOTE:
After applying this HotFix, the product
version will be reported as 4.6.0j.

RESOLVED ISSUES

1. ISSUE:
When attempting to unload NetShield for
NetWare with a slow or failed Passive FTP
link, the AutoUpdate process may stop
responding, or hang, causing the unload to
   fail.

   RESOLUTION:
This HotFix replaces the file NETSHLD.NLM
with a newer version that terminates this
FTP link and enables the product to be
   unloaded.

2. ISSUE:
When NetShield for NetWare is unloading, the
WatchForF10 thread consumes a large amount
of CPU, causing the processor utilization to
   increase.

   RESOLUTION:
This HotFix contains an updated NETSHLD.NLM
which does not consume large amounts of
   CPU.

3. ISSUE:
When performing an AutoUpdate or AutoUpgrade
task, the server can abend with a Running
Process of NETSHLD XUReceive or NETSHLD
Upgrade process. The abend type is a CPU HOG
   ABEND.

   RESOLUTION:
This HotFix contains an updated NETSHLD.NLM
which resolves the CPU HOG ABEND during an
   AutoUpdate or AutoUpgrade task.

4. ISSUE:
When performing an AutoUpdate task, the
ACTIVITY.TXT file reports some actions as
   AutoUpgrade, instead of AutoUpdate.

   RESOLUTION:
This HotFix contains an updated NETSHLD.NLM
   which correctly logs AutoUpdate actions.

5. ISSUE:
When performing an AutoUpdate or AutoUpgrade
task, insufficient information is logged if
   the selection action fails.

   RESOLUTION:
   This HotFix contains enhanced logging
   capabilities to assist in troubleshooting
   failed AutoUpdate and AutoUpgrade tasks.

ADDITIONAL RESOLVED ISSUES

1. ISSUE:
The installation of NetShield for NetWare
changes the end line indicator from carriage
return to line feed in the AUTOEXEC.NCF
file. This causes no harm, but is apparent
   when viewed with Notepad.

   RESOLUTION:
This HotFix contains an updated installation
program that does not remove the carriage
   return characters from the AUTOEXEC.NCF
file. The updated installation program also
   repairs a damaged AUTOEXEC.NCF file.

2. ISSUE:
When installing NetShield for NetWare in a
time zone that does not recognize Daylight
Savings Time, the workstation displays an
   Unhandled Exception error.

   RESOLUTION:
This HotFix contains an updated installation
program that correctly handles time zones
that do not recognize Daylight Savings
   Time.

3. ISSUE:
When an AutoUpdate task is run using FTP,
and the FTP server returns text that is not
preceded by a result code, the server abends
in NETSHLD.NLM with a running process of
   XUReceive.

   RESOLUTION:
This HotFix replaces the file NETSHLD.NLM
with a newer version that correctly handles
text that is not preceded by a result code.

4. ISSUE:
When the On-Demand Scanner attempts to scan
a password-protected .ZIP file that exceeds
240 characters in the path, the server
abends in NETSHLD.NLM with a running process
   of SCScan_0x.

   RESOLUTION:
This HotFix replaces the NETSHLD.NLM file
with a newer version that properly handles
   the scanning of password-protected .ZIP
   files.

5. ISSUE:
The NETSHLD.REG file can become truncated
due to an abend that occurs while writing to
this file. This in turn can cause NetWare
servers to abend in the initialization phase
   of NetShield for NetWare.

   RESOLUTION:
This HotFix replaces the file NAIREG.NLM
with a newer version that adds additional
error checking to verify that the
   NETSHLD.REG file is not truncated.

6. ISSUE:
On NetWare 5.x servers, when Microsoft
Office files are saved with special
characters in the file name, the save fails
with the error "This file is read only."
   This does not occur on the initial save;
   only on subsequent saves.

   RESOLUTION:
This HotFix replaces the file NETSHLD.NLM
with a newer version that correctly handles
special characters when saving a file.

7. ISSUE:
When files are accessed on a Novell NetWare
server, the last modified date is not always
   preserved.

   RESOLUTION:
This HotFix replaces the file NETSHLD.NLM
with a newer version that preserves the last
   modified date of a file.

8. ISSUE:
When an EXTRA.DAT file is placed into a .ZIP
package containing the latest DAT files, the
EXTRA.DAT would not be applied to the Novell
   NetWare server.

   RESOLUTION:
This HotFix replaces the file NETSHLD.NLM
with a newer version that applies the
EXTRA.DAT file during AutoUpdate, if it is
   present in the .ZIP package.

It also replaces the files MCUPDATE.EXE and
SHUTIL.DLL with newer versions that add the
option to "Force update .DAT files" to the
   AutoUpdate configuration options. If the
EXTRA.DAT is placed into a .ZIP package that
contains the same DAT files as those already
on the Novell NetWare server, you must check
"Force update .DAT files" to deploy the
   EXTRA.DAT file.

9. ISSUE:
When AutoUpdate or AutoUpgrade runs, the
UPDATE.INI file is downloaded and checks
whether an update is required. If an update
is required, AutoUpdate and AutoUpgrade use
the "FilePath=" variable in UPDATE.INI to
   locate the necessary files.

   RESOLUTION:
This HotFix replaces the file NETSHLD.NLM
with a newer version that assumes the
necessary files are located in the same
   location from which UPDATE.INI was
   originally downloaded. If AutoUpdate or
AutoUpgrade is unable to locate the
necessary files in the same location as
UPDATE.INI, it defaults to the "FilePath="
variable in UPDATE.INI to locate the
   necessary files.

INSTALLATION

INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS

For a complete list of system requirements and
detailed installation instructions, see the
Installation Guide included with the original
release of NetShield for NetWare 4.6.0

TESTING YOUR INSTALLATION

You can test the operation of the software by
running the EICAR Standard AntiVirus Test File
on any computer where you have installed the
software. The EICAR Standard AntiVirus Test
File is a combined effort by anti-virus vendors
throughout the world to implement one standard
by which customers can verify their anti-virus
installations.

To test your installation:

1. Copy the following line into its own file,
then save the file with the name EICAR.COM.

      X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H*

The file size will be 68 or 70 bytes.

2. Start your anti-virus software and allow it
to scan the directory that contains
   EICAR.COM.

When your software scans this file, it will
report finding the EICAR test file.

3. Delete the file when you have finished
testing your installation to avoid alarming
   unsuspecting users.

   IMPORTANT:
Please note that this file is NOT A VIRUS.

REMOVING THIS RELEASE

To remove this HotFix from your computer,
reinstall your original NetShield for NetWare
v4.6.0 anti-virus software. This restores the
previous files.
